Flesh Eating Maggots
03.30.04 (9:51 pm)   [edit]
Tonight has been fairly eventful in the ER. We had a man who complained of having a flesh eating maggot in his nose for three years. He kept having conversations with himself......or with his maggot friend. He didn't stay long, he left AMA (against medical advice) about five minutes after checking in. I have a few questions regarding this. Don't maggots turn into flies? And doesn't the average house fly have a life span of about 37 days?

In my personal life, there are family problems abundant. For once, it isn't my family with the problems. My husbands brother has expressed his dislike for me to my husband and his mother. Okay, so I am not always liked by everyone, but isn't everyone allowed to make mistakes? It isn't like he has a past that is squeaky clean either. I cannot please him and I am not about to try.

My husband is moving back in permanently as of tomorrow. I am glad to have him back. I have missed him in the past 4 months....and I have especially missed his snoring.

Things are quiet right now in the ER. It is 11:45pm and the only sound I hear is doctors laughing and some base from the music they are listening to here in the "arena" -which is the center of the ER where all the action happens. Ahhhhh. Peace. :)

Bored, bored, bored
03.26.04 (7:00 pm)   [edit]
Work is very slow tonight. Believe it or not, Fridays are the slowest day in our ER. Mondays are our busiest. Nothing wierd has happened lately in the ER.

I have been afflicted with a skin abcess. My primary family doctor was just going to put me on antibiotics and send me to a surgeon. I called him a wuss. He laughed at me and told me that he would drain it, but that he wan't too fond of blood. (We have a good relationship, we laugh at each other quite a bit, I make fun of him alot) He is a fun loving guy and a great doctor, but he just doesn't like to do anything complicated. I told him that if he did more procedures, he would get paid more. I guess he doesn't care. Oh well. It feels better since he drained it. He put me on antibiotics and hopefully it will heal up nicely.

I hope this is the last of my illnesses. I have been at the doctors office quite a bit lately.

My personal life is going well. My husband and I are definitely working well together so far. Although, as always he never tells me anything, so if he is thinking anything bad, he hasn't told me lately. He is a bit on the crabby side tonight. There is a bit of jealousy between him and his brother about a few things and it makes him upset. Actually, it makes me upset, too!!

I am reading a good book, a very funny book called, "Bleachy Haired Honky Bitch" by Hollis Gillespie. It is quite humorous while she talks about her alcoholic father and her missle building mother. She references her two gay friends in every chapter of the book, mostly just to make fun of them.

I am just randomly talking. I think I will sign off.....

Among the wierdest.....

So there is a man in our minor ER department who was acting a little strange. The fact that this was his sixth visit in six months for an STD check is strange to begin with. He was very suspicious and very paranoid about the fact that there were cops just roaming the ER. Cops roaming about the ER is not an out of the ordinary thing. In any case, one of the cops is a very well known person in the ER and since the guy was acting so wierd he decided to run the guys name through for any legal record he might have. Turns out the guy was driving a stolen car AND had over $3,000 in Victoria's Secret lingerie in his car!! Needless to say that he was arrested on the spot.

I just went in a room to register a man who is here for back pain. He bluntly said to me, "Put on some gloves and rub my back for me, baby girl." I told him that he could get some medicine in a short while. He replied by saying, "I think you could do a better job!" Oh my! All this coming from a man who smells like he hasn't taken a bath in weeks!!

Just wait a few minutes and there will be more excitement. A man was dropped off by some people who asked for a wheelchair and then left him and asked for a number where they could check on him. This man needed to be intubated and is on deaths door!! He is very, very drunk. What friends!! Geez O Pete!

All of this and the night is very young!!

Shiny Happy Thursday!

Well, therapy wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. It was mostly a session to get history from us, where the marital problems started, what our family history is. It took my husband about 5 minutes to tell his family history. Me, well........it was much longer and you should have seen the diagram the woman was drawing on her sheet of paper! :o Holy Monkey!! My mother has been married five times and my dad three. I have one brother and six sisters who are all half to me (either we share the same dad or the same mom). It is so confusing, I can hardly keep it straight sometimes.
Needless to say, I am looking forward to next weeks session!! :D

I have had two days off work and it has been fun. The girl and I have had a good time playing Candy Land (I am always the blue guy). We have done about twenty puzzles in the last two days. She is an amazing little girl. I took her to the mall tonight and she was an angel. Her funny saying tonight was while she was laying on me and I was tickling her she said, "Mommy, I am laughing on you!!"

Therapy and more.....
03.16.04 (9:42 pm)   [edit]
I can't sleep. I am dead tired. I keep thinking what tomorrow morning might bring when my husband and I have our first marriage counseling session. I think I will end up just crying most of the time, just because I am so frustrated.
I don't even know where to start when the therapist asks us questions. I am sure she is very skilled at what she does, but it is hard to know what is actually going to go down.
I am expecting some spousal bashing. I don't know though. We know what needs to be corrected, but I don't know if it can be fixed or not. We just need help in how to correct it.
He is the most awesome, kind, and gentle person I might ever meet, but since he can't express emotions and won't ever tell me what he is thinking it is hard to communicate with him. I have thought for a long time that he just hasn't cared about anything because he doesn't verbalize an opinion and is so passive about everything. That is where I take over, because I see that nothing is getting done, so I take control.

Anyway, I am going to try to go back to bed. Thank goodness for Tylenol PM!!! :)

NKOTB!
03.15.04 (8:05 pm)   [edit]
Yes tonight is New Kids on the Block listening night in patient registration!! My co-workers and I brought in our old NKOTB tapes and are jamming!! For all of you who are in their middle to late twenties know all about the NKOTB! I find it funny that I still know many of the words and harmonies!

My music tastes have sure changed (and for the better) I am very much the alternative girl now. My current favorite is Howie Day and my husband has introduced me to Rosie Thomas, I have downloaded a few of her songs off the web and have recently ordered her cd off of half.com and I am very excited to get it!! New music is so exciting for me!! I really look forward to listening to any new music.

I am also looking forward to going to a concert on April 1st. My sister, L. was going to be going with me, but plans have changed and it looks as though I will be going alone. Bummer. I am going to see Jonatha Brooke, she has a fantastic voice. Her new album, Back in the Circus is not her best work, but it sure would win over Britney Spears any day!!! Okay, so she might not look as hot as BS (her initials are that for a reason!), but artistically she rocks! Wait.....who doesn't rock artistically over BS?

Work is fine tonight. I am just sitting back waiting for one of my co-workers to come back from lunch, so I can go see my little monkey on my break.

I am back from my break, I love spending time with my girl. She is sooo cute. I can hardly stand it. I was able to read her some bedtime stories before she went to bed. :)

Ouch!

My infected left ear has turned into a bloody mess since my daughter decided to "help" me put in my ear drops....she stabbed the dropper in my ear and it kept bleeding for a few hours. I had one of the docs look at it and she scraped a piece of skin off in the ear canal. It doesn't hurt as much as it bugs me that I can't hear! I feel as though I am talking under water. I went to my regular doctor yesterday and he flushed my ear and found a outer ear infection, but the doc here says I have an inner ear infection. He is going to give me oral antibiotics. What a buddy!!

I got a good nap in before I got to work tonight. This is night number #2 out of a four day stretch. It is early in the evening yet, all I have to complain about is a man who is in a room right across from my desk who has very stinky feet!! Yuck! He is stinking up the whole ER!!

I was asked to go out with one of my friends, but alas this night has kicked my ass and I am too tired. Such is the life of a working mother with a bad ear!!

A few nights ago I was working and things happened that were out of the ordinary. There was a woman that came in saying that her water broke and she was very giggly. Come to find out that she was very intoxicated and is 37 weeks pregnant! She was sitting at the bar and her water broke! A man who was sitting next to her brought her in and told her to fess up about being drunk. Obviously, the smell was just pouring out of her. I asked her quite blatently why she was at a bar, drinking and pregnant? She told me that she was a bad pregnancy for her, that she was raped and that is why she is pregnant in the first place. So, why are you hurting your baby by drinking yourself to insanity? I was very tempted to ask her why she didn't just get an abortion in the first place instead of harming her innocent child?? Unbelieveable!!

A few nights back, I got to watch the ER techs bag up a corpse. Interesting. This was a 75 year old lady who died in the ER. She came in for something fairly common, low blood sugar and then coded...which is also called flatlining or in Layman's terms...her heart stopping. The techs did CPR on her for a half hour, but no use. While I watched them bag her naked body up in this big white bag with a black zipper I noticed all the bodily fluids coming out of her. Gross!! It stunk so bad, I had to leave the room. Her legs had scales of dead skin on them. She was a resident of a nursing home and obviously didn't have much care in the way of bathing. Nursing homes are bad news. I hope I never end up in one.

My blog sucks, because I have no experience in the HTML stuff. My significant other needs to help me in this area, but I doubt he ever will. Just because we need to work on our relationship, not my blogging techniques.

I have made a date for our wedding anniversary. I booked a room in the same bed and breakfast where we stayed for our wedding weekend. I just sent him an invitaion in the mail to meet me there......although we probably won't meet there, we will go together. The night will be filled with wine drinking, good food, and massages!! I can't wait!!

Welcome!

I started this blog to be like my husband, yes, exactly like him! Check out his blog.

I work at a hospital in registration/patient accounts. I have been working here for about 9 months. I have some really crazy stories, but also some sad ones. I work mostly in the Emergency Room at the hospital. The hospital I work at is in a lower class part of town. I will have to go back and recap all of the freaky stories since I started here. Some are unbelieveable!

Other than that my personal life is rather boring. I am married, but am in the process of getting a divorce. Although, my husband and I are going to start to go to therapy to see if we can work things out or not. I have a three year old daughter who is my sunshine, my only sunshine, she DEFINITELY makes me happy when skies are gray.
